weekend report: delayed edition

June 7, 2016
Delayed because Mr C pulled some serious shenanigans at bedtime last night.  He is in a . . .challenging phase right now.  I recall somewhere in the depths of my memory that Annabel may have been difficult around that time too, but I may have blocked it out.
Anyway.  Here’s to a better day!

OMG, did that go fast.  Honestly, wasn’t it just Friday night!?  We were home all weekend and didn’t do anything too adventurous (does the beach count when you live right there?) but it just flew.

We pretty much followed the plan I laid out on Friday – it kept us juuuust busy enough, but also allowed for some downtime (and a nap for me, yesterday).  Perfect.  After detailed self-searching and data-driven analysis (or not), I have come up with the following Summer Routines & Summer Fun lists.  They are separate, because the former is all about repetition/routine and the latter more of a bucket list of things to do.

SUMMER ROUTINES // 2016

1) Sunday playdate/dinners, preferably involving bathing suits.  I really love going out with a bang on Sunday nights, and since it is light fairly late, late-ish swim playdates & BBQs are just perfect.  I’m trying to fill our calendar with these, and will try to include both family & friends.

2) Library outings.  I want to make it to the library at least twice/month with the kids.  I’m thinking Saturday afternoons.

3) Summer Reading:  I am going to ramp up reading time a little and dig into some juicy novels.  Preferably from the library (see above!).  Suggestions welcome!

4) Friday Movie Night:  I know a lot of families do this, and I think C is allllmost at the point where he could sit through a short kids movie.  We will debut Finding Nemo in our living room this Friday in preparation for the sequel coming out soon.

Of course there is no reason that these all have to be summer-specific (except the pool one, maybe, but this is South FL!).   But hey – why not!?

SUMMER FUN LIST // 2016

1) Ice cream family date on a random weeknight

2) Family BBQ (host!)

3) Weekend getaway (Legoland?!)

4) First movie night @ the theater for C (worth a try anyway, will keep expectations low!)

5) Attend a kid-friendly outdoor concert (if we can find one!)

6) Water play @ South Pointe park

7) Trip to Zoo Miami

8) Make smoothies

9) Go shopping for Father’s Day w/ kids

10) Go on a boat (any boat!)

I’m so glad you guys are getting some weekends together! Your summer routine looks great! We started Friday movie night last fall and it is really a life saver to order a pizza or make something easy and watcha movie together. We all look forward to it all week long, Griffin gets to pick a movie out from the library or we’ll stream something from Amazon or Netflix. A few of our recent faves include Home, Robin Hood (it’s an oldie but Griffin loves it!), and Tangled.

And C is definitely entering into what I consider the most difficult age (2.5 – 3.5 was ROUGH at our house). Godspeed!

If you go to Legoland you must do a detailed review! I am considering it for a 2-night weekend trip next year and would love to hear someone’s experience there. And if you wanted to stay club level at the Ritz in Orlando I wouldn’t object to your review of that either. 😉 (I seriously think staying club level at the Ritz might be key to my full enjoyment of a Legoland weekend trip).

Ugh, bed-time regression. We are dealing with that now. The little guy went from going to bed relatively nicely at 7:30 to staying up until at least 9 pm, and throwing himself out of the crib. And waking up in the middle of the night almost every night this week too. Ugh, why??

The summer fun list sounds good! We are big fans of Legoland in CA. Not sure if the FL one is similar, but I assume it is. It is very good for little kids – accessible in a way that Disney is sometimes not.

I say the beach always counts! And C might surprise you at the movie theater. Camille has been to two movies and did amazing! Popcorn or a special treat helps 🙂

While actual likely purchaser wants your dream house with them, it has long been the “Emotional Connect” which often guides the criminals to choosing which to obtain.
