if i had an extra hour . . .

August 18, 2010

if the clock were set back 60 minutes right now, i would:
★ expand on my HP plans
★ update my weekly recipes/workouts
★ post some fantastic anthro sale finds (!)
★ write a meatier post than this about the need for sleep (because i have been feeling totally drowsy and therefore just generally bad lately)

if work was cancelled today and i had the day off, i would:
✔ deep-clean the apartment
✔ tie up all loose-end emails & write thank you notes
✔ pay billz
✔ get caught up on my study schedule
✔ spend an hour or two reading american wife
✔ run errands
✔ catch up on the wonderful blogs i found out about at the HLS

if there was a hospital strike and the whole week was cancelled, i would:
✿ spend the first day doing the things above
✿ spend time with my sister, calling friends, and catching up with family
✿ take a day trip to the beach
✿ host at least one party
✿ study every day
✿ take time to update this blog with pages (restaurant reviews, recipes, etc)

if i were granted a one year paid leave of absence right now, i would:
♥ try to write a book
♥ pour my heart and soul into learning espanol
♥ travel all over to visit friends and family
♥ probably miss my current job (!)

what would you do with ______ amount of time off? answer here, or post and comment with your link! i found this to be quite an interesting exercise.

8.17.10

workout: 35 minutes elliptical (levels 9-12) + quick circuit workout (pushups, tricep press-downs, ball-to-tucks, lat pull-downs, bicep curls, back extensions, repeat!)

without a recipe: our bella bean produce is so good that lately i’ve just been throwing it all together without a recipe. who needs extra guidance when the vegetables are just so perfect on their own?

big salad with spinach, fresh & local corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, plus mozzarella, walnuts, and annie’s light honey mustard dressing
studying: uh oh – i’m a day behind already. there goes friday ‘off’. i actually went to see yo yo ma and the silk road ensemble in concert at UNC last night when a free ticket became available spur-of-the-moment. so . . . worth it.

When I had last week off I:
*got up at 5:20 every day with an energetic toddler
*cooked for a lot of house guests
*spent nap time making lunch for everybody and wishing they would just grab a sandwich and clean up after themselves
*made delicious baked goods every day
*ate way too much homemade baked goods
*didn&#39t make time to run because I felt bad leaving our guests and my husband and child to take time for myself
*stayed up too late to try to be social after the baby went to bed
    *missed my job!

Sigh, time off is just not the same with a wild kid around. Not that I don&#39t love (almost) every moment of it, but sometimes days off are even more exhausting than days at work! 😉

I can relate to Jenny&#39s comment…I&#39m a stay at home mom so technically I have every day "off." But this job is way more exhausting than my former full-time office job! If I had the day to myself (i.e., child care), I&#39d spend two hours writing, an hour running, two hours on the couch reading or sleeping, and an hour drinking wine with a girlfriend!

I do have time off. School&#39s out for the summer and I&#39m a teacher. This post reminded me to make the most of my time. I did update my blog and read some great books/articles. I wish I traveled more.
