miami invasion

June 13, 2009

short but sweet
in honor of their 40th anniversary (!!!), josh’s parents decided to stop by on their way to NYC from miami to spend a lovely day with us. thankfully, the stars aligned in my favor last night and i was able to sleep a good amount, rendering me suitable for in-law hosting fun. we didn’t do anything too elaborate: basically just a lot of eating and catching up. but no one was complaining.

i got to wear my new anthro dress:
striking a red-carpet-style pose

and we dined at which is one of my favorite durham dining establishments. gourmet yet casual elegance in a sweet southern package, four square is in a charming old house and is known for lovely service as well as delicious, locally focused food. we started with a pink cava which was as refreshing as it was eye-catching, and i enjoyed my appetizer as well — a grape and beet salad full of bright summery flavors.

check out these entree options:
i really wanted the mahi mahi, but sadly they were out! next time, i suppose. the tuna entree that i got instead was still excellent, with bistro-style fries alongside generous, rare, nicely seasoned strips of fresh fish.

we also finished with dessert: josh and i shared a raspberry stout ice cream sundae (i am a sucker for any ‘sundae’ on any restaurant dessert menu). despite putting me over the edge into the stuffed zone, it was entirely worth it. i enjoyed every bite, and we had a lovely evening.

unfortunately, our guests AND josh are passed out right now and i think i’m the only conscious one left — i think it’s time to set up the couch and at least attempt to be hospitable. so:

good night! and also . . .
i am happy to say that my stationery gift pack sold for $40 to the highest bidder, the famous veggiegirl! i am honored to be shipping my pretty paper to such a well-known and popular blogger. angela, i really had fun helping out with the fundraiser and am thrilled at your result. VG, i hope you enjoy!
