mad men-esque

January 9, 2011

wide open
it’s a sunday full of possibility. while i certainly have some household tasks (and blog-related projects!) i need to get to, it’s certainly not an overwhelming list.

however, i do have one goal for today, and that will be to spend most of my time disconnected. i will need the internet for a few things (vacation planning, recipe-finding, and the like), but other than that i plan on leaving my reader alone and (gasp) email un-checked.

wish me luck! (i may need it.)

win $500 from anthro: in your own words
obviously, a $500 giveaway is not in theshubox‘s budget. however, i wanted to spread the word about this contest that the company is holding, just in case any of you want to enter, talented and brilliant as i know you are!

the assignment is to write a 30-word postcard inspired by the following ad campaign:

the link to enter is here. i had fun writing an entry! josh remarked that the process reminded him of mad men, which made me begin to lament my choice of career, because HEY i could have been a glamorous copywriter enjoying liquor at work instead of a kid/hormone doctor.

but the i settled down and remembered that i like my job a lot, and for the most part cannot stomach straight up whiskey or bourbon.

so, yeah. enter the contest! you’ll have fun, and of course remember to bestow a little kickback to the person who referred you, right? kidding. (kind of.)

seriously contemplating this
although i will probably chicken out.

speaking of mad men
josh and i attended the annual UNC surgery holiday party last night. it’s always been a bit of a stuffy affair (sorry!) but this year was not so bad.

think old furniture + a bunch of surgeons in suits. like this one!
i wore an anthro sale find that i was inspired to buy after seeing it on miss emily (of daily garnish fame). honestly, i think she rocks it a lot better than i do, and i felt a bit matronly last night.

part of that is admittedly a bit of body image angst that goes along with my running reform. to be honest, i am at a weight that in the past would have sent me into uber-healthy cleansing mode — not with any drastic or unhealthy motives, but just to drop a few vanity pounds. now, i am trying to embrace them in the hopes that maybe they will be of help.

and if it means being forced to expand my anthro dress collection a bit, can it REALLY be so terrible?

1.8.11

workout: 4 mile trail run (with josh again!) in duke forest (the al beuhler trail + the fitness loop, for the locals). it was quite hilly but much more manageable than last weekends crazy dash. our pace was clocked at 9:14/mi, which i was actually pretty pleased with (it’s a VERY hilly course).

i wish i had a picture of the post-run snack we enjoyed at LOYO! it was snowing, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying every bite of my peanut butter/banana/granola concoction. love that place!

If you are wanting to explore the zen thing, may I suggest the Tara Brach podcasts? They are free on iTunes or you can download them from the website http://www.imcw.org. Good stuff… 🙂
