reviving the iPod
in 2008, i decided i would buy 2 new albums every month to keep my iPod library fresh and my thirst for new music healthfully quenched (this post goes through them all!). that was fun, and i might even consider repeating it. without this sort of systematic goal, i definitely have not discovered nearly as many new artists over the past 2 years.

however, through my latest obsession with sound opinions (i love them and even forgive them for hating on ben folds), i’ve started to get more excited about finding new music again.

my newest sound opinions-inspired acquisition is the crazy for you album by best coast. beachy pop with a modern edge, to me they sound like a combination of beach house and she & him (both groups that i like).

i also found out (via @hollysalt on twitter!) that samplers extraordinaire girl talk have released a new album:

the best part? this one is FREE! you can download it (legally) here. i haven’t listened to it yet, but i am already excited, seeing that everyone from l’il kim to simon and garfunkel seem to have found a place to coexist on this mashup.

UPDATE #1: just went running with this and at least the first 45 minutes are very entertaining and fun, though similar to the last release. i actually laughed out loud when “cecilia” was mixed in with “drop it low”! genius.

what are your latest musical discoveries? i love asking this from time to time as you all often help me discover something great.

what’s up, anonymous?
i have not yet heard from the unnamed college student aiming to live with more balance using her newly-won space 24!

sadly, time is running out! time is of the essence because the planner begins its dating on december 1st — i wouldn’t want the winner to miss out! i will choose a second winner tomorrow if need be. stay tuned . . .

UPDATE #2: anonymous has come forward via email to claim her prize! the email was actually sent last night, and i hadn’t checked. anon, i will get your prize in the mail stat. thanks again to everyone for entering!

the breakfast challenge: day 4
nope – i did not have the heart (nor the stomach) for eggs this morning. but i did stay true to the challenge guidelines! after rummaging through the cabinets, the following bowl of deliciousness ensued:

– barbara’s shredded oat squares
– peanut butter panda puffs (i buy these for josh!)
– banana slices
– sprinkle of peanuts for staying power
– 1% organic milk

i ♥ carbs.

11.17.10

workout: tempo run, 5 mi total
– 1 mile warmup @ ~ 9:30/mi
– 1 mi tempo @ 7:47/mi (800m jog @ 10:14/mi)
– 1 mi tempo @ 8:17/mi (800m jog @ 10:56/mi)
– 1 mi cooldown @ ~9:30/mi

blah! i did not meet my goals for this workout, which were to run 7:56/mi for each of the tempo segments. there WERE hills on my course, and my footpod may need some help again, but it just wasn’t a great run. however: at least i was out there!

clean eating coconut curry chickpeas: this vegan dish received two very enthusiastic thumbs up from josh + me.

you can find the recipe on this blog post (scroll down past all of her menus). i added some frozen nan which took this meal to an even higher level (see “i ♥ carbs”, above).

grant progress: i ended up not working much on my grant yesterday, because my attending (who i love) nonchalantly suggested during afternoon rounds that i submit an abstract to the PAS/pediatric endocrine society meeting.

sounds perfectly reasonable, right? except the due date was yesterday at 11 pm! initially i laughed and refused, but then realized i had very little to lose by whipping up the case report as he suggested. it will probably get rejected (it seems that case reports are discouraged anyway), but if it sneaks through then AWESOME! anyone else headed to this meeting in the spring?

I really enjoyed Best Coast on Sound Opinions too! I was surprised I liked them so much (and have almost forgiven the hosts for hatin&#39 on the Hold Steady back in May). Recently, I&#39ve really been enjoying the new Kid Cudi, as well as the Superchunk record.

anon: awesome! seriously, mine has very little chance of being accepted as it is just a case report. but i will be going either way so maybe we&#39ll run into each other! please come say hi if so!

sarah: if you like best coast and kid cudi, i think you would find girl talk as awesome as i do. it&#39s free – get it!
