recycle, revise, rework

revision
it’s amazing how this beachfront hotel went to the trouble of making this breakfast for me! i guess they knew i am rather stuck in my ways when it comes to my AM meal, and they really wanted to make this stay a top-notch experience.

i mean, really! down to the plate, it looks exactly like something i would have whipped up and enjoyed in the comfort of my own home. come to think of it, that view looks rather familiar.

all right, i’ll stop. you all probably get it by now — we didn’t leave for the beach minibreak last night as planned! there was some bleeding in an OR over in chapel hill that precluded one of the vacation attendees from leaving work before midnight (you can guess which one of us that was, given that i have not set foot in an OR since 2003 and do not plan on doing so ever again unless i am being operated on for whatever reason).

i sulked for a while (because for a few moments i just felt like wallowing!), but then i settled into glee and desperate housewives on the couch. then i ate a coconut ice cream bar (these are great, btw) and crashed into bed by 9:30. after a solid 9.5 hours of sleep, i am over my initial disappointment.

sure, we’re out $200 — sort of. but then again, the hotel room cost the same amount whether we actually stayed in it or not. and i sort of refuse to let money matters upset me. furthermore, i had actually lobbied for leaving this morning (rather than last night) anyway!

so: we will be leaving today (after a run together in chapel hill) . . . and the weekend so far is just as sweet.

browsing the ’90s
is it me, or is there a little bit of ’90s throwback going on at anthro? many of the pieces remind me of things i either owned or simply lusted after in middle and high school. and funnily enough, i am now lusting after them in their slightly revised forms.

exhibit A:

lucerna dress kind of reminds me of the frumpy chorus uniforms we had to wear . . . and yet i still want it.
exhibit B:

the pieces of fall top is a patchwork number that could have nestled between floral sweatshirts and ombre sweater-tops at EXPRESS back when they were known as “compagnie internationale” (anyone else remember that?)
and yes — i wanted those sweatshirts then, and i want this top now.

exhibit C:

i probably would have worn a kohl’s version of this soldierly sparkle top with my faded and ripped up levis with homemade slits at the bottom to render them faux flares (and therefore way cooler).

and now i want this top yet again, only this time to pair with skinny jeans. what goes around comes around, i suppose! although isn’t there some adage that if you remember styles from their previous incarnation, you are probably too old to revisit them again? hopefully this mostly applies to more skin-baring trends like miniskirts and crop tops.

10.1.10

workout: 5 miles outside. i had no watch or mileage tool for this run but it felt pretty fast!

in the kitchen: alone in the kitchen last night, i almost considered plowing ahead in my cooking project and making the next recipe. but turkey burgers for one just didn’t make sense! leftover pizza (oven baked from the freezer) it was, and it went nicely with the britney spears glee episode.

Ugh! Sorry about your beach plans! Hope you guys have a great time for the rest of the weekend! What about the resurgence of the plaid flannel? I should have kept those plaid shirts I wore freshman year of high school during the grunge movement!!

I never really understood the economic concept of sunk costs… I still obsess over the "lost" money! Try to put yesterday behind you and enjoy your shortened beach weekend 🙂

Thats a shame about the OR, but think of the bright side!

You got exactly what you wanted for breakfast? 🙂
    Or something.

I love how you looked at the glass as half full!

It is funny how fashion recycles itself from something hideous (well looking back at it that is) to something we really love…ha!
