everything old is new again

August 1, 2010

or newish, anyway
my used bookstore adventure yesterday was a success! sort of. while i wasn’t offered cash, nice price books of carrboro gives the option of store credit or trade-ins. good-bye, julie and julia, time traveler’s wife and a few others —

hello, organizing plain & simple and the perks of being a wallflower.

both are in nearly perfect condition and are now taking up residence on my nightstand along with curtis sittenfeld’s american wife which i am currently enjoying (at my usual snail’s pace, of course).

i realize that heading to the library is perhaps an even greener and more efficient way to read books, but i like having books around long-term (waaaay longer than even a renewed book gets to hang around) and i dislike having a time frame/deadline in which to enjoy them. while they are not the perfect solution if you have a specific title in mind, browsing through your nearby used bookstore is not only cost effective, but more environmentally friendly AND kinder to the local economy than hitting up the neighborhood barnes & noble.

plus, you never know what you might find, so it’s a little more exciting!

here are the ‘rejects’. in particular, i really liked early bird. i’m posting the stack just once more in case anyone is interested in a trade! if not, i will donate them . . . they will someday find a happy home, i hope.

temperate rainforest
= our weather theme for this weekend. i am kind of enjoying the change from the previously sunny-but-scorching july sky. yesterday i met up with an old (and we’re talking elementary school here) friend k at caffe driade.

look how cozy! just imagine a gourmet coffee shop/wine bar hidden away behind the trees. we couldn’t take advantage of outdoor seating this time around, but we did get to sit outside under a canopy and enjoy the refreshing cooler air.

. . . and speaking of cooler air, i am going to head out on my traditional sunday run! it’s 8 am, and the current temp reads 66 — can i be imagining things?

dear lightning bolt, if you could just hold off for 90 minutes or so, i would really appreciate it.

august goals
new month = a new theme for my personal happiness project! this go-around, i am going to focus on energy. i haven’t exactly mapped out my plans yet (hey, that’s what a long run is for, right?) so i will post specifics tomorrow.

happy sunday!

I liked the Perks of Being a Wallflower. I read it years ago and don&#39t really remember it though.

66 degrees is perfect for a run! It has not been like that here. We&#39re still in a major heat wave.

I&#39ll be curious to hear your review of Organizing Plain and Simple. I&#39m a confirmed library user because I never read things more than once, and if I like something I&#39ll definitely finish it before it needs to go back- even at the expense of other, more important things. Glad you found a way to make used books work for you.

Oh man, I love Cafe Driade! I have not been there in ages (since college at UNC) but I used to literally live within walking distance on Franklin and visited often. I love their little outdoor oasis down all those steps? Too cute. One of my first local coffee shop experiences I would guess.
