it’s really okay
i woke up in a slightly grumpy mood today.

“it’s saturday,” i thought. “this blows! josh is off, and i’m still on call. blarghgh.”

but really: i just had the last three weekends off! how dare i feel sorry for myself this morning.

how quickly could i forget that this was the norm just over a month ago? except instead of a few hours spent in the hospital, it was 30, or a completely mind-numbing 12 hour block in the ED, traumas mixed in with conjunctivitis. and instead of casually telling residents to stick the baby myriad times to get that hypoglycemic workup from the comfort of my own home (or bed), i had to be a part of the blood-bath.

(on that front, said residents were heroes last night, i have to say!)

my point is that things are MUCH MUCH better now! and i don’t want to forget where i came from just a month or so ago . . . because really in comparison where i am today is sweet.

and when i really think about it, there is absolutely nothing bad about what i have on my plate for today. we have some pretty interesting inpatients and while i’m on page, there are plenty of breaks between calls where i can get things done AND even relax some.

plus, can any morning really be bad that starts like this?

i. heart. breakfast.
plans for the day
☑ head in to the hospital and round on our patients
☑ come back home, relax a little, lunch w/ josh, basic clean-up
☑ work on PCOS/CAH presentation for monday!
☑ board prep
☑ call family/friends to say hi
☑ gym time — 8-9 mi ‘long’ run (on the TM – since i’m on call!)
☑ make sweet potato and tempeh bake for dinner
☑ relax with my book or a movie at home with josh

totally non-glamorous. yet totally sweet.

two recent blog posts that made me smile
caitlin (yes, the blogger who sparked some of my jade thoughts of book deal envy — yet who i am quite happy for and proud of!) alighted the blogworld this week with her empowerment/body image self-acceptance movement operation beautiful, and she inspired many others to write themed posts. i’ve read a bunch of them, and here are two of my absolute favorites:

change the way you see, by the fabulous miss heather of hangry pants

lessons in beauty from sarah of peas & thank you. another blogger with a book deal — and it’s easy to see why; she has a way with words and i love her honesty.

happy saturday!

8.6.10

workout: 30 minutes yoga for runners

it all evens out: i might have had sweet potato chips and tcby for dinner last night. it just felt right at the time! don’t tell the HLS.

project corner: doing okay! i did skip board prep yesterday (friday is supposed to be ‘off’ but invariably turns into a makeup day when i miss some other weekday . . .), but it should be easy to catch up today.

Are CAH and PCOS related somehow? I have pcos and have never heard of CAH (until now and of course I had to read about it on wikipedia). I know you probably don&#39t want to turn your blog into the new version of webmd – I&#39m just curious 😉

Hope you have a good weekend despite being tied to the pager. Thanks for the links above. I don&#39t usually read any of those blogs, but I enjoyed both Heather and Sarah&#39s posts.

Sounds like a decent day, despite being on call. I did a presentation on PCOS on obs-gyn last month! Much more basic than yours will be though it was fun to put together.

Love your attitude, lady. It&#39s normal to do some self-pitying at times, but the fact that you catch yourself and change your perspective…says a lot abt what an amazing, strong lady you are!

Great attitude, girl! Life IS sweet:)
Love the looks of your breakfast–are those fresh figs I see? Can you believe I&#39ve never tasted a fig outside of a Newton?
