resolution countdown: #8, tiny but important

i guess it should be count UP
oh well. actually, i haven't really put these resolutions in any order of priority -- i just wrote down a list, and posted about the one that called to me each morning! today, i have a very unglamorous BUT important resolution to discuss:

VITAMINS!

i hate swallowing pills this size. i can do it, but it's a minor ordeal. however, i know that i am being lame, and irresponsible. i really should be getting in calcium + D every day, as i am a small-boned white female with an osteoporotic mother (hi, mom.). i also need to take a multi.

mr. vitamin-face says, "why won't you take me!?"

my strategy will be putting the vitamins next to the coffee so that i see them while i am preparing my daily caffeine bolus. after all, i never forget to grind my java and make my brew, so it should be pretty foolproof. mom: hi, again. you have permission to yell at me if i am not doing this.

non-resolution plans for 2010
i guess 10 resolutions (including some that are compound bundles which i realize is totally cheating) aren't enough for me! here are some other things i'd like to do in the new year. i don't consider them resolutions, because they aren't really daily habits or practices, but more fun things i'd like to do. here goes:

more triangle blogger gatherings. our last gathering was so much fun -- i'm so excited to meet up with these ladies again! hopefully soon.

throw a party at our apartment. i love being a hostess -- from the menu planning to greeting guests at the door. we used to entertain pretty regularly when we lived in a house, but since moving (and residency), it really hasn't happened much. even though our space is small, i see no reason that we couldn't host a small dinner party (or wine & cheese tasting, or game night).

MOVE THIS BLOG. it's going to happen. you all have to promise you will update your reader subscriptions and bookmarks, because i'm really nervous about this! but i can't stand typing or seeing the sad sack of a name ("lostandallalone") any longer. and i'm guessing that you won't miss it, either!

STAYCATION!
hey, i'm on vacation! never mind the fact that i still woke up at 5 AM (thank you, circadian rhythms). i am still psyched to spend 6 days doing . . . not much. today i am going to spend some time cleaning up so that i can continue to do not much in clean surroundings.

i think i also want to make calzones. i mean, why not?!

12.28.09

workout: none! figuring i'd finish up in the early afternoon, i didn't work out in the morning . . . and then i got pulled to the emergency department to work a shift that i didn't finish with until 6:30 pm. it wasn't bad, actually (i never really mind the ED), but this is an example of why morning workouts JUST WORK BETTER.

i actually sorta like lostandallalone :)

i find that getting out calcium pills/chews the night before and putting it where i know i will see it is when i take it. just make sure you pack one in your lunch the night before.

keep in mind...strength training will also build up your bones.

enjoy your vacation!

i definitely take a multi but i keep hearing conflicting reports as to whether or not i need to. some "experts" say that they're ineffective, others say that i don't really need them because i do eat a balanced diet and yet others say i must take them. so decisions! i take it that youre a proponent of the vitamins? can you share a little in some future post why that is?

cant wait to see what your calzones look like. yummy :)

Do you know how much of the vitamins/minerals you actually get from pills? I'm sure some is better than nothing (and of course it's better to get them from food!), but I've heard mixed reviews on how beneficial a multivitamin really is. (I do love the term "expensive urine"...haha.)

Wooooo staycation! The couch can be so relaxing. :)

I stopped taking a multi when that study came out that showed people who took multis died sooner than those who didn't. No cause and effect, just correlation ofcourse. But still. Jon is paranoid.

If you move, PLEASE post the new web address here. :)

OK, I won't yell, since it hasn't done much in the past, but you are right that taking calcium, given your heredity, should be a high priority. Plus taking them now may be much more effective, than what I have done: taking them after negative consequences!

Also the easiest way of taking those large hard pills is to put them into a spoonful of yogurt. But I have already ranted about that too, with little success!!!!

yay for more blogger gatherings! We should plan one for January!
As for vitamins, I've had them sitting next to my coffee maker for years so I don't forget to take them :)

Same with me, I hate taking those dumb pills! I saw the Adora Dark Chocolate Disks on Meghann's blog. They have calcium plus D and taste delicious, unlike those nasty Activa ones from a few years ago. I highly recommend Adora! I think I got mine at Whole Foods?

I am on staycation too!

I take a multi and extra vitamin D every day. (The vitamin D is because I live so far north and I am not allowed to be in the sun because of immunosuppresants.) Because I take so much medication I just take it with the morning heap of pills and never forget it. I kind of envy your pill-free lifestyle! ;)

kim: oh i'm glad someone does! but i feel like it just doesn't fit me, or what's on the website -- people give me weird looks when i tell it to them!

stephanie: what a sweet comment!! that meant a lot to me. thank you.

marathon, susan, jon: i know i need the calcium, and i figure the multi can't hurt. plus as someone who wants to have kids eventually i want to keep my folic acid stores tanked up!

mom: thanx =D but the yogurt method doesn't work for me. i just need to suck it up.

meg: yes january! i think jessica is trying to plan something at her house. potluck!?

meredith and sarah: i probably would like the adoras . . although i find the viactivs completely disgusting. i'll give them a try!

atilla: miss you all! but sometimes a staycation is needed.

jenny: ahh, nothern latitudes! vitamin D deficiency definitely does correlate with that . . . so i can imagine it would be rampant in sweden!
