resolution countdown: #3, bright & early

December 24, 2009

up & at em!
it’s 5:05 in the morning, and i have to be at work by 7. can i eat breakfast, write this post, get in a brief tempo run, and still get to work looking moderately put-together? hmmm: i’m not sure.

what i do know is that my current RUSHRUSHRUSH out the door is no way to start the first day of the rest of my life (which is every day, of course!).

so resolution #3 is to work on my morning routine (one variation previously described here! this is one of the resolution bundles that i alluded to, because it encompasses several changes i’d like to make.

☀ prep lunch either the night before or while making coffee/breakfast. either way is far better than tearing through the kitchen at the last second.

☀ aim to fit in a workout in the morning whenever possible, and plan accordingly. i read in shape last week that the elevated mood from a good workout lasts up to 12 hours, and i totally believe it. i don’t really care how early i have to get up — i would rather fit in a run or cross-training session prior to work than afterwards.

☀ be realistic about time to blog and relax over breakfast! if i know i want to get a workout in, then i can’t spend 30 minutes reading blogs and 45 more writing my own post. uploading photos the night before helps, as does having a go-to list of topics in mind to write about (this kind of genius doesn’t just materialize out of thin air, you know. (kidding, obviously)).

☀ aim to dry hair and put on some makeup every day!

there you have it! and with 15 minutes left before i should get my butt onto the treadmill, i’m going to end this section . . . . NOW.

dr. kracker
i saw dr. kracker‘s delicious-looking crackers in morgan‘s blog recently and decided that i wanted to try some, too! i felt that perhaps as a fellow MD, dr. kracker would be willing to bestow some carb-y goodness upon me to sample as well.

the dr. was quite generous with his offerings!
as part of this complete dinner
i couldn’t wait to try these babies, so i dug into the pumpkin seed-cheddar flatbread right away. i even planned dinner around it (it was a day off from KERF week!), accompanying my flatbread with some microwaveable chicken-white bean chili and baby carrots.

the flatbread was hearty with a nice cheddar flavor. it didn’t look all that filling when i took it out of the package, but ended up taking a little while to eat because of a great CRUNCH factor. i loved the pumpkin seed adornments on top!

the box in all of its glory
excellent ingredient list
good nutritionals

thanks, dr. k! i enjoyed tasting this product and am looking forward to sampling the other varieties.

anthro SALE
after getting out earlier than expected from work, two of my (enabling) coworkers and i headed out to the local anthro — after all, they were having a SALE! not a common occurrence in the anthro world.

i got the staysail shirt dress, which looks miserable on the hanger but FAR cuter on me!

i also got the transmissions belt to accompany it.

the dress looks like it would be perfect for spring or summer, but i am determined to winterize it to wear NOW. with some tights (like these berry bush babies) . . .

tights are awesome although i think i’d rather bargain-hunt mine
slightly old-ladyish-but-cute shoes would completely my winter look

these look pretty comfortable, too
don’t worry (JOSH), i didn’t buy all of this stuff! but it’s fun to play online designer. i did, however, decide that i want the in a moment if it ever goes on sale.

so pretty and flattering on!

i know i’ve been posting lots of dresses recently. honestly, if i could i’d wear dresses to work all the time! unfortunately (or fortunately?) i think that in order to do that, one needs to build up QUITE a repertoire of dresses. so this is not going to happen for me anytime soon.

but i can dream . . .

thank you
all AGAIN for your help in the comments yesterday! again, there was so much good stuff there that a future post will feature your recommendations. i love that there is so much wisdom and experience lurking out there!

I&#39m rush, rush, rush in the morning too. I get up at 7:45 and am out the door by 8:30. Although, I don&#39t run or blog.

Good luck with this goal. I think that packing your lunch the night before will be a great time saver. Maybe pack your gym stuff too, or lay it out.

Hey! Don&#39t think I&#39ve commented before, I started reading your blog after I saw you were at the triangle blogger meetup. I&#39ve enjoyed it so far, but: omg. I was totally at anthro (at SP, which I assume is where you were!) yesterday from ~2:30-3:30. And I lusted after the dress you bought, and the dress you wanted to to buy 🙂 Kinda creepy, I know, sorry! You&#39re awesome though, have a great Christmas!

I think we all, bloggers included, underestimate the time it takes to write these posts! One thing that works for me is if I have several topics in mind, I will sit down and write a few posts at once, then save them for the day that I either a) have nothing in mind to write about or b) have no time.

Props to you for running and blogging and making lunch all before work – that takes skills!

Dresses are comfy, but most of the time I have to wear heels with them so that they look right on me, and that&#39s just not going to happen.

As a 2nd year medical student it was so nice to read your thoughts on dedicating effort to teaching us younger ones in training! I think I would be so lucky to have you as a teacher and mentor (though most likely won&#39t since I go to school in wisconsin)we need more doctors like you!
