a rainy adventure

noteworthy long run
for two reasons!

1) because i got to run with kath! she is one of my favorite running partners (like here, and here!). we always have so much to catch up on that the time flies by! this time was EXTRA fun because matt came, too.

2) it was my last run of the my training cycle! barring any unexpected illnesses or freak accidents (oh god, please NO!) i am going to be on the starting line for charlotte’s thunder road marathon injury free and ready to race my heart out! it’s my fourth marathon, but given that the last 3 of my training attempts ended in injury (+ tears + frustration), this is pretty awesome (and honestly: unexpected!).

it was raining (moderately) and 45 degrees, but compared to the nor’easter run in maine that i did with emily back in october, it was a runner’s paradise.

i think kath had some trepidations about the conditions, but . . . miraculously, none of us melted! and we had a great time.

matt took some action shots:

they may or may not have been staged.

we did 6.2 miles in 53:10, which is about an 8:35/mi pace. i had done 4 miles to make a grand total of 10.2 (first 4 were at average 8:41/mi pace). i was happy to see good consistency between my polar and her garmin!

i am guessing that i will probably run my marathon at around this speed. it felt very comfortable — like i could have done another 16 miles, even! i may not quite be boston-fast (that would be 8:27/mi to qualify with a 3:40:59) but i am hoping for a PR (the time to beat? 3:53 from the flying pig marathon in 2006).

perfect post-run parfait
after the run, we headed to mad hatter in durham to meet up with some of my favorite bloggers. allie, jessica, and meg were all there — a good representation from the triangle food blogging mafia (okay, fine, i just made this name up. like it?). i also loved getting to meet lacey, and lauren, and their significant others. we were just missing josh (he was post-call). but at least i brought him home a cookie.

mmmm, yogurt, fruit, and granola parfait! all food tends to taste pretty fantastic after 10 miles, but this really hit the spot, along with some holiday blend coffee. i’m a little overcaffeinated right now (i might have pre-gamed for the run with a cup of java) but it’s worth it.

weekend fun
we have some fun plans for the rest of today/tonight . . . a supersouthern country concert, and the first of what will likely be many birthday dinner celebrations for josh (replete with barbeque). for now, though, i’m just going to bask in the running + brunch afterglow and hit the couch with my postcall husband.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, so nice.

giveaway reminder!
now, i know many of you are probably here via kath‘s blog. welcome and come back anytime!

i am guessing that by association, many of you probably love organizational toys as much as i do. a pretty red 2010 planner is up for grabs here . . . enjoy!

12.4.09

run: 5 miles @ 8:41/mi. this seems to be my body’s default ‘easy’ pace these days! maybe it will end up being marathon pace . . .

I can&#39t wait for you to have an injury-free marathon! You might even surprise yourself–the Boston pace isn&#39t that far away!

And apparently "Jen" in the comment above has never been dedicated enough to try such a thing.
