somewhere in the middle

compromise
i’ve admitted in the past that i tend to be an all-or-nothing sort of person when it comes to getting things done — either i’m superwoman, or i’m nearly comatose, camped out on the couch with nary a productive thought. yesterday, i posted a list of triaged to-dos, and then somehow wound up on said couch, feeling dejected about the magnitude of what i had yet to accomplish.

but then . . . a little glimmer of a thought occurred to me. i realized that i didn’t have to do EVERYTHING. that perhaps just doing enough would be . . . enough.

as in,
enough laundry to have clean clothes to wear this week
enough cooking to create food with some nutritional value
enough cleaning to make the apartment habitable
enough shopping to get us through a very abbreviated week

and then i peeled myself off of the couch and actually started cleaning up the kitchen. i have decided that this week will be a week of compromise. my standards may be lower, but i will be more relaxed/happy, and i will be heading off into the vacation sunset in the right sort of mood.

instead of madame martha (and my own blood/sweat/tears) providing our nightly meal, there will be more reliance on miss amy and miss annie. maybe a little help from the geniuses at the loop, too.

not-so-ambitious meal plan for the week

last night, instead of giving the bathroom its usual bleach-intensive scrub, i just washed down the counters and tidied up a bit. i did just half a load of laundry (about to go fold it now!) and i’m planning on a very short whole foods run for staples in conjunction with a workout in just a few minutes.

and so far? IT FEELS GOOD to go halfway. who knew?

important announcements
if this blog had a PA system and we were all still in high school, i would read these to you out loud during homeroom. ahh, memories . . .

1. last chance for the honest foods giveaway! go here to sign up to win an assortment of bars (they are very cookie-like and delicious!) and granola planks — it’s easy (and your chance are still great!).

2. local meetup: this thursday! if you live in the area and don’t have plans . . . come drink some wine with me, allie, and several other local bloggers! i am super-excited to hang out with these ladies, and it should be a fun evening. email me if you would like me to send you the invite!

It&#39s okay not to get everything done. Just try to remember that.

Have fun at your meet up! Take lots of pictures for us non-North Carolinians to enjoy.

I hate to admit this, but we had exactly the same dinner as you did tonight(mac & cheese, peas and canned salmon) and I had not read your post until now!!!! Either "great minds think alike", or more apropos: lack of planning results in an annie-type dinner!

    Still rather amazing!!
