rocked

didn’t see that one coming . . .
thursday started out just like any other day. after 8 hours of daytime sleep, i wrote quite a chipper (and rather self-satisfied) post about being acclimated to the nighttime shift, so i must have been feeling pretty good. i even went to the gym after that and had an unremarkable cross-training workout. the first sign that something was off was that i wasn’t really hungry for dinner, but i figured that was just due to shifting schedules and forced down some amy’s pizza in preparation for my shift to come.

by the time i arrived at work, though, i knew all was not right. by 11:30, i was quietly rigoring (is that a word?) in front of my computer screen. my head was swimming, and i feared my pizza was going to make an unwelcomed repeat appearance. the ED’s ear thermometer read 37.9 (100.2) . . . it was official: i was sick. at a very inconvenient time.

coworker a, if you are reading this, i am really sorry that you stayed to cover me. in retrospect, i probably should have called someone in for jeopardy — i think i just wasn’t thinking straight. i don’t really remember the drive home, but by the time i got there my temp was 102 and honestly, i can’t remember ever feeling worse. aside from the rare bathroom venture, i spent the next 30 hours in bed. josh threatened to bring me to the ED, and then later to steal IV supplies and start one at home.

jon commented that josh left food pictures out of his guest post. well, here’s a recreation of that day’s gourmet eats:

today i have graduated to 99-100 fevers and the couch. high fevers, chills, and the bed are SO november 6th!

basking in the misery
do you all mind if i just wallow and complain for just a little bit more? THIS was the weekend i’d been looking forward to since the beginning of the ED month. even though i hate football, i was going to go to the duke/UNC game with josh and i was determined to enjoy it. tomorrow’s big event was going to be my 18-miler — HA, i don’t think i could even do 0.18 right now. and my race is in just FIVE WEEKS! and i was all excited about being done with the ED night shifts — and now i’m going to have to make one up! blah.

this is NOTFAIRNOTFAIRNOTFAIR.

perspective
then again . . . oh, it’s the whole perspective thing. fine. well, i suppose i should count my blessings, right?

☑ my family is healthy (well, except me — but i will be again!)
☑ i am going to get better . . . and i’ll appreciate how great it feels to have energy and not feel faint every time i have to walk across a room
☑ the marathon is just for fun. whatever happens will happen. and thank goodness i’m not injured!
☑ in 2 weeks i’ll be on vacation with josh, going to see both of our families. the odds that i will be sick AGAIN at that point are probably pretty low
☑ things like this still exist.

clearly, things can’t be that bad.

wow, now i really do feel just a little bit better. the power of love, positive thinking . . . and pretty ruffles, i suppose.

thank you
to all the well-wishers in yesterday’s post! i hope you all are enjoying fun, happy, and healthy weekends. drink some good wine for me!!

One question…WHY do you have to post such cute clothes that there is no way I can buy? 😉 That shirt is SO super cute but no way am I paying $118 for a dress much less a shirt! Oh well!

Good to hear that you are better!

You still have a 20 mile LR left, right? In that case you should be A-ok.
