YES!!!
i am so incredibly excited to be done with my community NICU rotation. today, i am officially beginning a 5 month stretch of decent hours, interesting (to me!) rotations, and a number of weekends off, plus a bit of vacation time. on monday, i’ll write about some goals and aspirations to go along with my new lifestyle, but this weekend is going to be all about enjoyment and recovery.

today’s plans:

1. a workout. fine, i know, that’s pretty boring. but it will be nice to get my cross-training/weights done in a leisurely fashion for once! i feel rested and and i have a whole stack of backlogged magazines to delve into . . . us weekly, marie claire and self, here i come!

2. a green excursion to the local farmer’s market!

i’ve heard this market is tiny, but it’s right by my apartment (and conveniently located on the way home from the gym!). i am going to stop by and check it out today — camera in hand, of course. i will report back!

3. a massage!

locals, i love bella trio in durham. wonderful massages in a lovely pampering atmosphere. this is my absolute favorite way to reward myself after a hard rotation.

4. a little fall fashion preview

pretty styling — especially those shoes! — from banana

well, the salon is right by the mall . . . so i may stop by. i can’t hold myself back any longer: i want skinny jeans, and i want them now.

5. a blueberry adventure?
depending on the weather (and josh’s work schedule this afternoon) . . . we may check out the blueberry picking action at this local blueberry farm. if blueberries are procured, there WILL be blueberry crisp and blueberry muffins (or . . . scones?) on the docket. oh yum.

so there you have it. sounds like a lovely day, doesn’t it??
anyone else have fun weekend plans to share?
i’m thrilled to say that there are quite a few weekends in my future so i’d love any exciting ideas!

larabar review: tropical fruit
the nice people who make LARABARS made my day earlier this week with their generous package. i wanted to report back on one of thew new flavors: the tropical fruit, which i tried yesterday during clinic.

i arranged them all nicely to take this nice picture for you all! just kidding.

unfortunately, i am not about to whip my camera out at work. first of all, it would probably get stolen, and second, people would think i am crazier than they probably already do. i am sure no one is really all that disappointed because my photographic skillz need some improving! but i can verify that this photo from their website does capture the look (and taste) of the tropical larabar.

here is the ingredient list:
i approve.

lee was not a fan, but i absolutely LOVED this flavor. juicy and a little more complex than some of the other varieties, every bite was tropical coconutty bliss. it was a little island escape in the middle of clinic! fine, i didn’t exactly hear bongoes drumming or feel a gentle ocean breeze, but i might have if the kids crying from their shots weren’t a constant background reminder of my reality.

still haven’t tried the much awaited PB & J . . . i might be hoarding it. but when i do break into that wrapper, i’ll try to capture the moment on film.

workout: tempo run, 6 miles total on the treadmill (0.5% incline)
– 2 miles warmup @ 9:13/mi
– 3 miles @ 8:20/mi
– 1 mile cooldown @ 9:13/mi

the treadmill has its place, but i am greatly looking forward to resuming AM outdoor running!

doin’ time: no – last night just screamed pizza night. so we looped it.

reading: –. i am planning to take tonight off from any work related activities as well. next month will be quite a learning-fest, however! i’ll be on endocrine!

What a nice day! Please let us know about the blueberry picking! I have never been berry picking–but I did go cherry picking when I was a little girl, and I have no eaten a cherry since. I ate SO many–I got sick of them! haha

Yay! Glad you made it through the NICU. Work is always more exciting if you&#39re in a place you want to be.

Plans for today sound awesome…nothing beats a massage with a little shopping on the side! Let us know if you find anything good for fall…some of us are a bit more fashion challenged. (Why buy cute clothes when all I wear is scrubs and running clothes??)

yay! congrats on finishing nicu! you&#39ve probably already gone to the market – so for following weeks – check out the carrboro one – they have a strict local produce rule and lots of organic options.. it&#39s easy to get there by going on estes to the end (we ran part of that route b4).. enjoy your pampering and what sounds like an awesome weekend!
