HLS recap 3: my 10 favorite things about the summit
everyone is probably sick of hearing about the healthy living summit by now, but i’m just going to squeeze in one last top 10 list before moving back to our regularly scheduled programming on work, organization, running, mindfulness, orla, and martha.

1. boston!. what a fun city — particularly in the summer. so walkable, with great food, shopping, and scenery. like this swan here.

2. meeting other bloggers. yes, i’d say there were a few of us in attendance.

it was so much fun to meet those i had been following online, plus there were so many more that i now want to read. biggest blog-to-reality surprise –> tina is quite petite in real life! i had always pictured her as 5’8″ or 5’9″. someday she’ll have to share with me her secrets for photographing tall.

3. proving to myself that i can navigate the subway like a big girl. yes, for real. most of the time i depend heavily on josh to do things like this, and i was pleasantly surprised to find that i wasn’t completely inept out on my own. i still missed him like the dickens, but at least i’m not co-dependent.

4. running with other bloggers. on saturday, i enjoyed 8 lovely miles with susan, who is wayyyyy faster than me but mercifully held back so that i didn’t perish. we ran along the charles and had such a great time that i’m going to post this picture even though my face looks oddly lopsided.

sunday, the running fun continued with a group outing. i hope meghann doesn’t mind me borrowing this picture!

just getting started. you can see me from the back, intently doing something with my polar.

5. getting to hang out with emily. this item is not blog-related, but belongs on the list nonetheless! emily is one of my college friends who happens to be an incredibly brilliant chemist with a keen eye for classic fashion finds. we went shopping, of course. i didn’t buy anything, but it didn’t matter.

6. SWAG.

oh YEAH.

side note: josh hates the word swag and claims that it is slang for drugs. neither dictionary.com nor urban dictionary mention this, though, so i will continue to use it.

7. not thinking about work. very therapeutic. admittedly, i’m still not in the NICU groove yet, but i’m sure it will come in time.

8. learning more about blogging. i really did enjoy this aspect of the summit and found it very useful. when i get a chunk of free time, i’ll definitely put some of the new tips into action.

9. J.P. licks & BOYO. what is it with boston and their love for ice cream? i’ll never understand why a city that is frozen for 8 months of the year is populated with 8 zillion places to buy a cone, but it is, and i’m glad.

10. reading everyone else’s recaps! so much fun to see the experience from so many different angles (as well as trying to spot myself in random pictures all over the place). for anyone else interested, a collection of recaps can be found here.

aaaaaaaand this concludes the summit coverage series! obviously, i had a great time, learned a lot, and met a lot of wonderful people. i hope to get the chance to attend again! maybe by then this site will have a less ominous name . . .

8.18.09

workout: none, i’m kind of sick with some sort of viral thing. yuck! i hope i didn’t give it to too many people last weekend.

doin’ time: MARTHA will return tomorrow. however, i do have some fun food-related photos to share! monday night, fellow blogger meredith met up with me in chapel hill while in town visiting her sister, and we had a great meal at sage cafe.

i had to try the sparkling pomegranate wine. it was a little too sweet for me and tasted more like a cocktail, but i managed to get it down. heh.

hummus appetizer shared by all. i wouldn’t touch it for fear of dispersing viral particles, but josh served me some. it was pretty good.

fezen joon!!! an absolutely delicious, to-die-for concoction of pomegranate seeds, walnuts, tempeh, brown rice, and pure magic, or something like it. i order this every time i go to sage because i can’t imagine anything better. sweet, savory, rich, and comforting, this dish makes me happy. i enjoyed the leftovers for lunch yesterday as well!

post-meal. it was fun to meet meredith and hear more about the RD education process.

reading: an article about new treatments for retinopathy of prematurity. rather interesting.

Sounds like fun. I think they should have one in the South next year!

I think Josh might be thinking of the word shwag, which is slang for bad pot. I think.

I agree with everything in this post, especially #4…so fun! All the swag was well worth the trip, if nothing else…but I definitely would have loved it even without it.

Oh I love the idea of posting favorites! On of my favorite things was getting the BoYo guy to take a picture and how confused he was about us being bloggers! HAHAHA!

Your recaps have really been loved by me! All of them are so jam-packed with pictures and information. Thank you for posting them and giving us the low down. 🙂

So fun that you had a blogger meetup with Meredith. I hope I can meet you soon because I am practically you next door neighbor (Raleigh)!

Completely unrelated to your post but..

You&#39re in the Sept/Oct issue of Women&#39s Running (which I&#39m assuming you know..but you haven&#39t mentioned it yet). I knew you were going to be, but I didn&#39t realize so soon.

    Enjoy your fame 😉
