CHI and sushi

August 23, 2009

thanks, y’all
i think i’m officially out of my rut! i wanted to thank everyone who wrote in with helpful hints for reacapturing MOJO 2 days ago. you all had great things to offer:

susan suggested a quick nap.

madison and marathon maiden reminded me that these things go in cycles, and urged me to look past this little dip in energy and motivation.

jenny provided me with a list (she must know i love them!), which read as follows:

1. Sleep
2. Massage
3. Book + bath + sparkling wine
4. Sex
5. Good, nutrious food

anonymous commiserated.

emilyrena and ali wisely encouraged rest.

and the fabulous aimée wrote, “Fake it til you make it, love… and run slow.”

i have been putting many of these suggestions into action! today i will finally get a chance to really get a bit of rest/relaxation time, because i only have to work half the day. i still have an early start, but will hopefully be out by 11 or so, with a bit of luck. as lame as it may sound, i am DYING to spend some time cleaning and organizing. i have decided that my chi simply cannot flow when there are piles of laundry around.

finding flow: lessons from the NICU
i went into work yesterday with a good attitude. i pepped myself up in yesterday’s post, reminding myself to work on focus and staying present in each moment. for me, this means that instead of panicking at the length of my to-do list and rushing through everything in a frenzied state, i just tried to prioritize and zoom in on each item — and only that item — as it was being completed.

this simple plan worked! i really did achieve a good flow, meaning that the 10 hour day went by very quickly and was actually rather pleasant. i was able to remain calm and got a lot done, too. i did take breaks (10 minutes of blog-reading or internet-checking time every couple of hours), but overall had a lot of productive time, and it seemed to pay off.

today i’ll plan on bringing that mindset to work AND back home with me . . . i think it could certainly help me clean my apartment better. we’ll see!

glo shout-out
angela, who writes at the blog oh she glows, is amazing. she is very smart, always positive, and also happens to be ridiculously gorgeous. it’s been a lot of fun to watch her grow her own baked goods company — something she started in her kitchen in the early days of her blog!

i finally got a chance to sample her wares when they were included in the HLS swag bag. and oh my god — I FREAKING LOVED THIS BAR! it was wonderfully chewy and tasted much fresher than many of the commercial oat-based bars, which is probably because it sat in its wrapper for a much shorter period of time. it was a nice, substantial size and gave me great energy for my afternoon run.

i’m inundated with BARS of all various types and sorts right now (as you’ll see in a future post), but when my stock gets depleted i am going to order up some glo bars (and maybe some of her new glo-nola!).

angela, thank you for sharing your product! i know your company will achieve the success it deserves!

8.22.09

workout: 5 miles squeezed in after work — yes, another treadmill run. 0.5% incline, paces from 9:13/mi to 8:40/mi. this run felt good, but not great. i really prefer morning workouts!

doin’ time: we headed out for sushi at mt. fuji in durham with friends to at least give yesterday a little bit of a weekend feel!

i started with a glass of much-deserved new zealand sauvignon blanc

josh really wanted fried crab wontons. i did not like the bland, creamy-tasting filling. but they were kind of pretty:

i did, however, enjoy lots of edamame with SALT

melissa suggested we try the lettuce wraps, which i enjoyed. pretty much anything that gets wrapped up is okay by me!

and here is our smorgasbord of sushi! 6 rolls for 4 people was perfect. my favorite was the spicy tuna. YUM.

Yay for getting out of a funk! I knew you would. 😉
I want to try Angela&#39s bars–they seem so flavorful and she is always coming up with yummy looking combinations.

That sushi looks fab–I have never tried Mt.Fuji. I might have to now. Have you ever been to Sono? It is downtown Raleigh and is my favorite ever! Spicy tuna is my favorite roll too–I always get that when I go out. I see a sushi date in our future…. 😉

I keep saving my Glo bar. I brought it with me to eat after spinning yesterday, and when I was done I wasn&#39t hungry at all. I have been carrying around in my purse and work bag for a week now trying to find that special occasion to eat it. HAHAHA! Everyone is like, "For God Sake Ali, it is just a bar eat it already!" After seeing how much you love it, today just might be the day 🙂

I loved my Glo bar too. Totally soft and chewy like I like it. Angela&#39s going to be so successful, I&#39m sure.

Love your recipes so far this week!

I&#39m glad your mojo is on its way back. I love the "fake it til you make it" advice…story of my life!

I agree…I can&#39t fully relax unless my space is neat/organized…the clutter kills me!

Glad you are feeling more positive. I usually feel crappy during my runs after being sick, even when I feel fine the rest of the time.
