a regular day

delighting in the mundane
i am excited about having a regular day of work today! as in: no call, no clinic, no nothing. my intern has the day off, but i am down with writing notes and answering myriad pages . . . for one day, anyway. today is also my ‘friday’ because tomorrow i have off! while that means that saturday is also my monday (call), i’m looking forward to relaxing tonight, and really recharging tomorrow.

a highlight will definitely be the massage i have scheduled! this experience will actually be free because of an integrative medicine pilot program i participated in last year — talk about a fabulous perk. just down the street from the hospital is the very fancy duke center for integrative medicine which i have seen featured many times in places like shape, self, and the like. it is a very calming and luxurious building and is devoted to integrating mainstream + alternative therapies.

this is what i am going to get:

yay!

audio enrichment
in addition to the usual organization overhaul and the above therapeutic rubdown, one thing i really want to do tomorrow is to spruce up my music collection. last year, i made a point of buying 2 albums a month. it was a $240/year investment, but it meant that i really got to explore some interesting new artists, and i think it was well worth it. at the end of the year, i listed my top picks here.

this year started out the same way, but i am sad to say i haven’t bought anything new since april! sad considering the enjoyment i have gotten out of some of this year’s earlier picks (the decemberists’ hazards of love, and — yes, for real — lady gaga’s the fame especially)! i am going to go through the past few issues of paste magazine and pick some new artists & albums to explore.

i would love any recommendations! if you have heard some good new music lately or have older albums that you just luuuuv, let me know! my iPod is hungry for some new tunes.

workout: on tuesday AM before call, i did 5 miles at a comfortable 8:34/mi pace outside. yesterday i rested because with my car issues i didn’t get to sleep post-call until 3 pm!

doin’ time: currently on hold this week . . . and i am okay with that! but our fridge is reaching a new level of emptiness.

reading: several articles on enterovirus while on call, as i had to present a case in the morning. none yesterday, though.

    That massage sounds great.

This isn&#39t new music, but do you ever listen to the Magnetic Fields? Jason got me into them recently. They&#39re sort of odd, but I like them.

lucky with the massage! i&#39m really into taylor swift and rascal flatts right now. not sure how into country you are but it&#39s not twangy and some of it&#39s played on mainstream stations too. i&#39m also on an aerosmith kick, just downloaded a greatest hits cd from them.

The granola is amazing!! I&#39ve seen that brand at the WF in Durham and CH but not the carrot cake flavor…at least not when I was last there.

Let me know if you find it…if not, I&#39ll get you some!!
