day off!

full of promise
i have grown to love the random week-days off that come with ward rotations. yes, they are quiet and not typically full of excitement, but honestly that is exactly what i need during a busy call-filled month. i can get a lot done and enjoy being productive while not doing anything terribly taxing or unpleasant. it's not quite 10 AM, and i've already run 8 miles, brought my car in (no one can figure out why the battery is draining!), and treated myself to a lovely (decadent) breakfast.

kath's husband matt works at a great harvest and both of them are always raving about the quality of the breads and other baked goods, even talking about opening their own branch in the near-ish future! i had a scone craving, so i decided to check out my local GH -- it's less than 2 miles from my house, but i've never been there, amazingly enough.

i was greeted at the door with open arms, and took home a free slice of coffeecake in addition to a package of raspberry scones ("baked today," the guy assured me). though it is kind of sitting like a rock in my stomach right now (and making me want to take a post-run, post-scone nap), this specimen was a rich and buttery mound of heaven. (vickie, it totally reminded me of the raspberry muffins at cold springs!)
as with those muffins that i used to lo-o-o-ve in college, probably half of this guy was still wayyyy more than necessary, but i demolished the whole thing (along with the plain yogurt pictured). and it was great!

the rest of today's plans
running, car-checking, and scone-eating may be checked off of my list, but there is still lots i want to do! including:

☑ organize apartment (ie, pick all the piles of stuff off of the floor!) i swear this place actually isn't that bad underneath that superficial layer, but it looks horrendous.

☑ laundry. not the most glamorous, but someone has to do it.

☑ hunt for some fun new music and fill up my iPod nano

☑ finish reading article on hypothyroidism

☑ grocery shopping & (realistic) meal planning

☑ laze around reading more of my book

this is all, of course, in addition to my massage. time to get started so that i can come home to a clean house post-rubdown!

orla, take 2
i was so excited to pick up this package from the mail room yesterday! while sending the other bag back was hard to do, i definitely think it was the right choice given that it was very pricey and not exactly what i wanted. these little pleasures were bargains by comparison, and i know i will put them all to good use!

new mini-orla! excuse the wet hair.
my first orla notecards. they coordinate well with the bag, don't they?
and clearly this full-sized spiral notebook patterned with trees was essential. i just have to figure out what exactly it is essential for.

workout: elliptical (45 minutes, levels 9 - 13) + weights
- 2 x 12 pushups
- 2 x 12 ball squats, 10 lbs each hand
- 2 x 12 bicep curls, 12 lbs each hand
- 2 x 12 walking double lunges, 8 lbs each hand
- 2 x 12 seated rows, 40 lbs
- 2 x 10 tricep pushdowns, 15 lbs
- 2 x 15 bicycle crunches

doin' time, the restaurant edition. cooking was a huge bust this week, as you can see. it never fails: if groceries are not purchased ahead of time, dinners will NOT be made. oh well. sometimes i need a week of eating takeout/free food to remind me how much better i feel when i eat my own home-grown creations.

while i'm totally restauranted out, i enjoyed our trip to sushi yoshi, located very close to our apartment complex.

here is josh enjoying a much-deserved japanese beer (my sauv blanc is in the foreground)
and here is our sushi order: quite dazzling, no?
we finished it easily. i think the server was impressed.

I'm going to have to check out that Great Harvest when I'm back at school! I didn't realize there was one so close.

The sushi looks so good. I'll have to try it out! Have you been to Sushi Love? Rolls are buy one get one half off!

There is a Great Harvest really close to my house too and I've never been.

I went to GH once, and they were awesome! They gave us a free loaf of gluten-free bread (for my mom with celiac disease) because it was "old"...baked the day before! And free samples galore. So good.

Random days off during the week are so quiet and can get so much done, which I really like.

Having a weekday off is amazing. You can do errands at all the places that are closed during the weekend.

Yummm that sushi looks amazing! I can eat my weight in sushi I think...but it always leaves me SO full afterwards! I guess all the rice expands.

Week days off are always nice because there aren't so many lines when you run errands :)
