rising up

monday, monday
the new interns start today! what i don’t understand is why that ended up translating into me having a terrible night of sleep last night. sympathy anxiety, perhaps? worries about our team falling into a million little pieces of disorganized mess?

these years really do go fast. it wasn’t so long ago that i was having palpitations about my first day, and now i’m at the top of the pediatric residency food chain (well, as high as a resident can get, anyway). i hope i can help make today a good one for those getting their start today, or at least prevent them from feeling like they’re getting eaten alive!

to counteract the electricity that is bound to be in the air, i plan on being a force — no, how about a pillar — of calm upon arrival at work today. a pre-work run is definitely in order!

biting off what i can chew
last week i wrote about often having aspirations that are a bit too high for my packed schedule (ie, cooking/reading/working out/etc on weeknights). i tried to make this week’s plans a little bit more reasonable:

workouts are posted on the sidebar, and i tried to restrain myself and really think about time constraints in planning these as well. we’ll see how things go as my call month starts!

morning routine
krysten posted yesterday asking about my AM routine. i don’t want to scare y’all by telling you how early i have to get up in order to fit runs in before work on the wards, but . . . she asked. so here goes:

4:30 wake up
4:35 prep lunch for the day, make coffee & breakfast — something digestible pre-run
4:50 eat, check emails, read a couple of blog posts
5:05 write blog
5:30 run — today’s plan is an interval run that should take about 50 minutes
6:20 frantic shower
6:35 leave for work (although to be honest sometimes it’s a bit later — 6:45 at the latest)
7:00 arrive at work and get sign out!

so yeah — running in the AM on ward months is not easy. but i have really enjoyed it the past couple of weeks, and definitely want to continue! it really is the only time the weather is tolerable, and it isn’t too dark out after the first few minutes, so i feel safe. josh may even join me this AM . . . we’ll see!

local yogurt!

i’ve been wanting to try tart yogurt ever since i heard about pinkberry for the first time! local yogurt (or “loyo” for short, ha) has appeared on the durham scene and i got to try it out yesterday! TCBY, don’t hate me, but i may be converted to tart yogurt for life. i loved the sweet-sour flavor of my plain yogurt — especially topped with not-so-plain peanut butter cups and banana slices. i already want to go back and try some more flavor combinations.
