running early = running late

AM rush
this needs to be a quick post, because i would like to fit in a run this morning! it’s amazing that no matter how early i get up, i manage to end up rushing to work in the end. this is because, admittedly:

a) i spend too much time reading posts & writing my post
b) it takes me longer to get ready than i think
c) it takes me longer to get to work than i would like (25-30 minutes door to door during rush hour)

it is very un-zen to be cursing at the car in front of you for not zipping through a yellow light, so i’d like to work on this for a bit more morning peace.

which means that this post isn’t going to be very exciting!

schedule frustrations
i am sad to say that i wasn’t able to attend the healthy teens volunteer session yesterday. despite having OODLES of time on my hands when i didn’t really need it earlier in the week, i just couldn’t get out of clinic on time. i finished up at 6:30 pm — the downside of having 8/8 patients show up (many with multiple, um . . . issues). this was somewhat annoying because lately i had been getting out at a much more reasonable 5:15 or 5:30 when i had nothing to do afterwards.

sometimes i really wish that time worked like money and we could all take our allotted ‘life-hours’ and then spend them whenever we wanted to. living would be SO different with this small modification . . .

pure bar review: orange cranberry
the pure bar company bestowed on me a multipack of bars to try, which was very exciting! i haven’t been in real bar-eating mode lately and i want to do justice to each flavor, so expect multiple related posts. anyway, yesterday i managed to snap a picture of the first flavor that i tried, orange cranberry. everything looks better with an orla kiely background

my camera really struggled with this one for some reason

i am definitely a fan of these bars! while i am about the farthest thing from a RAW FOODIST as you can get (in fact, don’t even get me started . . .), i like the unprocessed nature of bars such as larabars and now these. the cran-orange had a great nutty taste and wasn’t overwhelmingly orange, which was a good thing for me. it didn’t make any sort of mess or noise (great for sneaking on rounds!) and kept me full for a solid 3 hours before dinner. i highly recommend them . . . if you can find them. i haven’t seen them at any of the local supermarkets including whole foods, but maybe availability varies by region.

once my stock runs out (though it will be a while), i will definitely consider buying some online.

workout: 30 day shred, level 3. this wasn’t my favorite level, mostly because there was many high impact jumps that made me worry my neighbors are going to complain (we’re on the second floor!). it’s hard to put your all into plyometrics when it feels like your impact is shaking an entire building! there were some great challenging moves (walking pushups = ouch) and a LOT of planks.

i would SO much rather run than shred but i know the combination is good for me and that the shred produces much more visible results. my arms are looking bangin’. or starting to.

doin’ time: i kept it pretty simple and just made martha’s greek salad with some seasoned flatbread (lavash seasoned and baked in the oven = homemade YUMMY pita chips!!). i added some chicken to the salad for extra protein but it didn’t taste good so we didn’t end up actually eating it. oh well.
salad splendor

on a plate.

Glad you enjoyed the bars! Very cool that it was able to hold you over for 3 hours!

I’ve seen those bars at our Whole Foods and also at Trader Joe’s. I’ve never tried them though. Looking forward to hearing the rest of your reviews on the other flavors.

I love having salads for meals, especially in the spring and summer. So light and yummy, and you can throw in whatever you want! I think having “Greek” in the name of any food automatically makes it taste just a little bit better…

I may have to try those if they are filling – I often find bars less filling than I’d expect. Love the homemade pita chips, they look perfectly crispy.

I thought I was so on time/early this morning, and then I realized that I forgot to make coffee. Running tends to make me run late as well.

The level 3 shred is actually my favorite. I love those jumps! I feel like I’m working so hard and doing something so different. But, I have no neighbors to complain!

The walking push ups are killers.
