media overload
believe it or not, this is not even the full selection.

i ♥ magazines. i cannot and will not go to the gym without a fresh copy of something. i have trained for marathons on treadmills in the company of such fluffy distractors as us weekly and elle and have loved doing it. i’ve gotten through many a speed workout in the company of runner’s world. and i’ve planned menus — sweating all the while — by flipping through cooking light or rachael ray.

recently i’ve discovered that my hip actually seems to prefer the road to the treadmill, and i’m pretty sure i can’t read during the 30-day shred. so, i’ve built up quite a backlog of unread periodicals. it’s not the expense i mind so much (more on that later) but more the clutter factor and effect on the environment (although i usually bring them to the gym for others to enjoy after i do, or if not i always recycle, of course).

i will say that cost-wise, there are a few ways to get magazines on the cheap. one way is to go through ebay — i got something ridiculous like 3 years of us weekly for $20 that way! another strategy is to use airline miles — perfect for when you have mileage remaining on an airline you don’t really fly anymore. i also used to love netmagazines.com, but a quick perusal of their site this morning has been a big disappointment — no more 5 for $30 deals like they used to have!

what are some of your favorite magazines? not like i need ideas for any more paper to consume, but i’m just curious. please tell me i am not the only one reading this much trash (us weekly excluded, of course. we all know that is a very scholarly, literary publication worth everyone’s while.)

really?
is it really almost the weekend? exciting! today, another resident and i are going into an inner city durham high school to teach about various health topics. after that, assuming i survive, i am planning to have a relatively quiet catch-up sort of weekend with a big fat to-do list plus a lot of relaxation time. yay!

workout: 5 miles @ 8:57/mi on the treadmill. it wasn’t bad, but my hip didn’t love it as much as the road. i can’t believe i’m finally converting to outdoor running after all these years!

doin’ time: my sister came over for dinner and i made a super-easy martha meal, spinach penne with ricotta and pine nuts. thumbs up for ease, including a quick clean-up since only one pot is used! i accompanied the green goodness with some roasted roma tomatoes. lycopene city!

after dinner treat of a french fruit gem. i bought these because i knew they would make josh’s day, but i like them too.

I never heard of buying magazines on ebay! The dinner you made looks delicious. I am going to have to try it.

nice selection! my friend go some ridiculous mag deals on ebay too. i really should do that rather than buy usweekly every week. i like lucky, usweekly, entertainment weekly and anesthesia&analgesia (ha, not really)

    That meal looks delish!

I’m a mag lover, too. I used to get Real Simple, but let my subscription lapse because they have it at the library. Since I go to the library twice a week with my toddler, it’s become my mag source!

I still get Vogue and Parents, and I check Runners’ World, Health and various other mags out from the library.

I keep meaning to subscribe to Runner’s World, but I always forget…maybe tonight! When I need to kill time at an airport, I usually head for Glamour or Women’s Health, whichever cover stories seem most interesting at the time.

I always read through my mom’s Cooking Light! Some good eats in there.

    In Style magazine!

And of course I don’t mind you calling me out about racing. At least someone out there is paying attention. 😉
