bon matin

i think we’re alone now
good morning! other than posting ridiculous pictures for you all to die laughing at, i’m not sure what i did with my weekend. by the way, in case you are wondering:

■ i was 12 in that picture, in 7th grade

■ 7th grade was not one of my happiest years

■ it was halloween, but i was wearing my middle school cheerleading uniform because i was THAT into it

■ unfortunately, i cannot do a split anymore, or even touch my toes without bending my legs for that matter

■ i will be forever indebted to contact lenses, braces, and japanese hair straightener for making me who i am today.

■ i actually thought my hair looked cool like that, even though it was a couple years too late to be channelling tiffany:

carrots ‘n’ cake cameo
on sunday carrots ‘n’ cake published a guest post that i wrote on meal-planning. interestingly, this was a hot topic over the weekend in the blog world, with jessica and angela weighing in as well.

if you discovered this blog from that post, hello and welcome! i can’t promise to lead a lifestyle as fun as tina’s, but i offer other charms, such as pictures of 80s teen pop idols.

coquette
josh was post-call on sunday. since he is working on raleigh, i figured it was a great opportunity to meet up with my sister (who lives there, about 30 minutes from chapel hill) for brunch. she had mentioned wanting to try a place called coquette, so we headed there. as she is a bit of a francophile (she lived there for 18 months), i worried that it might not live up to her high expectations of quality and authenticity.

however, it was fantastique. lovely service, great atmosphere, and wonderful food that was extremely true to french standards, according to the expert.

sampling of the brunch menu

i had the quiche of the day, which was tomato basil. i was presented with a hearty slab, which was creamy and flaky and basically to-die-for. i am already plotting a return trip in order to try the apple and brie crepe. i’d also love to go for dinner sometime. if you live anywhere near raleigh, i highly recommend this restaurant!

new month
on the medical front, i start a new rotation today: renal elective. i’m sad to say this is the last part of a 4-month stretch of having a fabulously call-free lifestyle. i will try to make the most of it!

workout: 40 minutes on the elliptical. i was supposed to shred but didn’t! i have officially been avoiding it (perhaps because i’m too scared of jillian?). today, however . . . it’s ON.

doin’ time: last night i was inspired by the brunch and made sort of a bistro-type dinner, à la martha, of course. the recipes were pork tenderloin with mustard sauce, which i accompanied with the crisp goat cheese salad (which also contained potatoes for the essential dose of carbs!). recipes in the sidebar as usual!
unfortunately, i had the camera on a weird setting — sorry for the suboptimal image!

reading: finished my AM report presentation for today on perforated appendicitis, with a little help from a convenient in-house surgical consult (josh).

other stuff: flossing yes, nail-destruction no.

I just got caught up with your guest post and I loved it! Too funny we all wrote about it on the same weekend. 🙂 I love your idea about cookthrough….making an entire cookbook sounds down right scary yet super awesome!!!!!

I just read your guest post on carrots and cake. Great tips, thanks. =) I get really overwhelmed looking through cookbooks for recipes so I think it’s such an awesome idea to just pick one cookbook and work my way through it.
