rainbow stripes

March 18, 2009

i’m trying to buck up — i’ve got a long day ahead of me today! afternoon clinic starting at 1 pm, and then a rush to the ER for a 6pm to 2am shift (no, nothing good happens at that hour!). fortunately, my daily caffeine dose has started to kick in, so i’ll be ready for it all!

IV success
okay, i’ve been seriously slacking on the IV front. but as of now: that’s over. i do NOT want to be a 3rd year resident in june of 2010 having to run around finding people to shove a line into to fulfill my procedure requirement (sadly, this happens not uncommonly in my program).

yesterday i seized the opportunity and stuck a big needle into an even bigger teenaged guy to get one checked off of my list. he had hoses for veins, and being a teenager (albeit a surly one), he wasn’t trying to bite and kick me while i stuck him (although he may have wanted to). with all of these factors on my side, it was a breeze. 2 down, 8 to go! with 5 shifts left to go, the question is: can i finish my requirement on this rotation? i’m guessing no, but it’s worth a shot. i’ve got nothing to lose by trying!

orla stripes
perusing ebay one day, i found a cute striped orla tank top on sale, and impulsively placed a bid for $36, one dollar higher than the previous bidder. to my surprise, i won! it’s a size “1” or small, and knowing that european sizes run small, i figured this would fit despite it looking a bit boxy in the photo. well, boxy it is! the top part actually fits nicely, but there is no waist definition to the tee and it is quite long. since i’m only 5’1″, wearing it ‘as-is’ looks fairly ridiculous.

however, i’m thinking — could i belt it? i’m a bit behind the times and haven’t embraced the trend of belting tops at the waist, but i’m pretty hourglass-shaped and i think i could work it. the questions remain: what kind of belt, and what kind of bottoms? skirt, jeans, pants? i have one tan skirt with funky seaming that might be promising, but i’m not entirely sure. advice?
pretty j. crew belt

i like pretty clothes and fashion but when it comes to actually applying and wearing trends i often find myself stuck on the same cuts that i wore in college (and i graduated nearly 7 years ago!). there are certain things that i’m pretty sure will NEVER work for my frame (umm, skinny jeans? not in this lifetime) but others that are worth a try. i mean, why not?

workout: 20 minutes elliptical and 20 minutes on the upright stationary bike, followed by 20 minutes of stretchy yoga. a nice combo.

doin’ time: martha would have been proud as i whipped up her pasta with lentils and arugula before work to bring for dinner. i used whole wheat rigatoni instead of orecchiette, because i had some leftover from a previous recipe.served with strawberries and mango, it made my shift just that much better, and was quite easy and fresh-tasting. i would definitely make this again.

jennyn: thank you so much! wish i could do more radio gigs . . . it was fun 🙂

inmytummy: wish it were dress length – that would be awesome. but no.

cindy: it’s totally cheery, in an almost pediatric sort of way. but hey — appropriate for me, right?

    lisa M: i think you’ve got a great idea here 🙂 will look for such a thing . . .

jess: you’re probably right that i should avoid color overload. sometimes i get carried away.

wide open spaces: your blog is so pretty that i am flattered you like it! it was a find — the tag on it says $98. plus it’s cute. hopefully i will find a way to make it work for me.

atilla: well, they’re knock-off tupperwares 🙂 they’re the ‘fit ‘n’ fresh’ series from target.

    da: keeping the tradition alive!
