listen here!
note: fixed to contain only the segment i’m in — i come on in about 15 seconds

so despite my better judgment, while driving i like to listen to some pretty lowbrow stuff. in particular, i happen to enjoy G105’s showgram. honestly, i really can’t help myself. it’s incredibly trashy at times (and politically does not always lean where i do) but . . . i just like it. bob, mike, and kristin seem like good people and they have good hearts, and they are fun.

science-wise, though, they aren’t always so up to date. i’ve heard them say some pretty hilariously inaccurate things about medical problems and the like, and have wanted to call in more than once to stop the madness. yesterday, i was driving to the gym and heard them speculating (as if it was unknown) about whether each sperm/egg produced by an individual is

a) exactly the same

or

b) different!

come on, people. if they were all the same, your kids would all be carbon copies! in fact, everyone would be pretty much the same, and that wouldn’t be very much fun, would it? so i called in, said i was a resident, and . . . before i knew it i was on the air, setting the record straight.

if the above audio file worked (i’ve never tried to do this before!), listen and you’ll hear me, spreading science knoweldge all over our listening area. i don’t exactly sound brilliant, but trust me — i was nervous. but it was fun. i would love a side job talking about health-related issues on the radio. maybe someday . . .

running update
so i ran 4 miles yesterday! it was a slow 4 (9:13/mi, 0.5% incline on the treadmill) but i am happy to say my hip feels FINE this AM! i had an ART session as well, so i’m thinking that it is really helping me. in terms of conditioning, the run felt a bit more challenging than it would have before my break, but not terrible. my calves/achilles are a bit sore today, though!

anyway, i’m very excited that my hip is feeling as good as it is, and i plan to alternate running and cross-training for this week, and we’ll see what happens. i’m actually feeling very relaxed and zen about the whole thing, and i’m proud of that. if i am able to run the charlottesville half (for fun) in april, then great; if not, that’s okay too. ommm.

another 3 – 11
i have another 3-11 today. i’ve decided it’s my favorite ED shift. not horribly busy, good backup, AND i get to sleep in and work out before work! the only downside is missing dinner with josh but while he’s in the burn unit that doesn’t always happen, anyway.

awesome ER case of the day: “6 month old brought in because she was screaming for 45 minutes. No fevers. Eating/drinking well. Pt is calm in triage.” okay, then.

workout: 4 miles, 9:13/mi, 0.5% incline. i forgot to press ‘start’ on the HRM, but i was wearing it and my HR was generally 165 – 185, similar to the elliptical. next time i’ll remember to actually turn it on for the session! in addition, i did the 30-day shred. it’s not getting much easier yet! from what i’ve read on caitlin’s blog, i’m scared of level two. i think i need a few weeks of level one remediation before moving on . . .

reading: 30 minutes on peds hypertension, plus i finished our required PREP questions. yay!

hi lisa! thanks for commenting — i was wondering if it would work for people (it did pop up on my mac but i wasn’t sure if that apply everywhere!).

yesterday i ran at 9:13/mi which corresponds to 6.5mph on the treadmill. sometimes i go faster but for now i’m in rehab mode!
