i got back from my run at 7 am. my phone rang, and it was my mother, and at this hour i knew it could only be one thing. my grandfather passed away at age 95 today. he lived a long life and served as patriarch to a veritable empire of offspring, who were his greatest pride: 4 children, 10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
he lived the american dream and greatly valued hard work and perseverance. he was so proud of the fact that i went to medical school and became a doctor, the only woman in the family to do so. i will do my best today and think of him.
