choices

August 24, 2008

obviously, i am going to reward myself for this month of agony with a post-PICU present. two very enticing options came to mind immediately:

this graceful beauty:

or this impossibly nerdy pile of plastic:

oddly enough, they cost almost exactly the same. i pondered the options for about 2 seconds and then immediately placed my order with amazon.com for the polar RS200sd. i’ve wanted it for so long, and i think it will greatly enhance my running life! so hopefully, by the time that i limp weakly out of the ICU for the last time (until january, that is!) there will be a very exciting package slip in my mailbox.

one of my goals with this purchase is to start doing more AM runs outside in the neighborhood. it’s obviously not possible during this ICU month when i have to get to work by 5:45, but it would be amazing if i could get to a consistent pre-work run routine for the wards (when i get to roll in at the leisurely hour of 7!), so that when i’m done for the day i can just come home, relax, cook dinner, and do some reading to prep for the next day.

and as for the wallet — well, it hurts my heart a little, but i’ll just have to look for something (MUCH) cheaper. i’m sure i’ll survive. i probably would have spilled something on it anyway, and that would have been sad.

8.23.08

run: 5 miles easy (8:52/mi, 0.5% incline) + 25 minutes strength training routine
– pushups, 2 x 12
– reverse lunges w/ 8 lb weights, 2 x 12
– crunches, 2 x 15
– lateral/forward raises w/ 6 lb weights, 2 x 12 each side
– plie squats with 12 lb weight, 2 x 12
– bicep curls, 12 lb weights, 2 x 12
– ball plank-to-tucks, 2 x 12

cuisine: i wanted to go out somewhere fun but josh was totally wiped out from being post-call. i COMPLETELY understand how that feels so i was happy to order chinese food and hibernate in our apartment. one plus side to working nonstop is that we definitely spend less money on going out/entertainment, leaving more for running toys and other things.

hours of sleep last night: 11. and now it’s too hot to run outside. but it was WORTH IT.
