whew

July 20, 2008

no babies suffered on my account at the community hospital this weekend. this is not because i am a heroic pediatric goddess-woman, but because there were really no scary scenes that required heroism skillz. there was one meconium delivery, but he came out screeching and feisty. i am very happy about the lack of drama, and also exhausted. apparently sheer terror is very tiring.

what i want to do at this moment:
abso-freakin-lutely nothing
or, alternatively, nap

what i need to do today:
finish my presentation for tomorrow’s morning report

what i don’t NEED to do today but probably should because it will make me feel better:
easy run and lift
laundry
basic apartment cleanup (recycling, kitchen, etc)

we’ll see what pans out.

studying: some NRP (resuscitation) cramming prior to my shift

running: 8 miles on the american tobacco trail (yes, it is somewhat ironic that our major exercise path is named after a carcinogenic lung-rotting plant, but whatever). i didn’t time my splits for once and just checked my watch at the beginning and end. 8 miles complete in 73 minutes, so 9:08 pace. not blistering, but not bad as it was almost 80 degrees when i finished. i listened to this american life and chilled out. it was good.

cooking: okay, this might be a disappointing first cooking picture, but it is what it is! i got home fairly late and didn’t have the energy to make anything more exciting than veggie burgers for dinner. at least i dressed them up a little bit . . .
specifically, this was a dr. praeger’s veggie burger on an ezekiel bun with sharp cheddar, sauteed mushrooms, and ketchup. on the side are trader joe’s chipotle baked french fries, which i thought were sweet potato because that’s what they looked like on the package.

this was a good dinner, but i didn’t really like the fries-with-sauce (they were better plain, and really i wanted them to be sweet potato). and after i recover from this weekend, i will post things that actually require combining fresh ingredients.

Speaking of veggie burgers, I tried the Morningstar Spicy Black Bean today and it was terrific. Are you training for any race in particular?

Glad to hear all went well at the hospital this weekend.

The heat and humidity was awful this weekend. Nice job on the eight. I need to get over to the Tobacco Trail one of these days.

    Good luck on your presentation.

Regarding your comment: Running: 8 miles on the American tobacco trail (yes, it is somewhat ironic that our major exercise path is named after a carcinogenic lung-rotting plant, but whatever).

What better way to memorialize a crop and product so extremely unhealthy, yet so very much important to the economy of the area and to hundreds of thousands individuals with a facility where folks can improve their health! Just like you are doing.

Also keep in mind that it is the “American” (needs to be bolded and underlined) Tobacco Trail. American comes first and foremost in the name. 😉

Thanks for using and enjoying the American Tobacco Trail.
