good morning

note to self: drinking a beer with 8% alcohol PLUS a glass of wine on a work night if you have the tolerance of a field mouse is ill-advised. i feel less than 100% this morning. but i had a great time last night hanging out with a friend who has moved to the area to start med school after a 2-year work hiatus. i just wish there was a magic pill to make me feel better right now!

workout: rest day!

reading: 30 minutes on panayiotopolous syndrome, which is this fairly common but underappreciated seizure disorder where a kid gets pale or vomits and becomes unresponsive with seizures rather than the typical shaking or other presentations. i have to give a morning talk on monday about a case but i’m not feeling 100% great about it because after reading up on the big P, i’m not completely sure that the case i picked fits this diagnosis! i guess either way it will be good for discussion, but i don’t want to get caught up in a diagnostic controversy on a field in which i have zero expertise (peds neurology.) so we’ll see . . .

cooking: since we hosted a micro-dinner party, i made not one but TWO rachael dishes. seriously, i do NOT usually make her stuff so often! but the last issue of her magazine had a lot of good options and i threw a bunch of recipes into my ‘to make’ folder, so it’s officially rachael ray week at our house. i recommend this canteloupe and cucumber salad but i thought that her coconut mango chicken with black beans was just okay. they were both quite easy, though. also, i think in the future i will start photographing my dinner concoctions. i think this blog needs some more flair . . .

Hope as the day moves on you start feeling better. On a positive side, it must be nice to have your friend back in the area.

Sorry to hear of the 8% beer hangover. Hangovers are why I stopped imbibing many years ago—even black coffee doesn’t help what only time can cure.
