more 3 day weeks, please

July 2, 2008

i can’t believe i’m midway through my week already after one day of work! i could get used to this. in fact, i almost have TOO much free time now. i never really put my thought into what i would do if i had this sort of time, because it wasn’t a reality to me. so, even though it’s only temporary . . .

productive/enjoyable things i can do with extra time:
• buy belated gifts for people (josh and i were truly delinquent about this during the spring when there was barely enough time to breathe)
• bake something
• work on learning spanish
• read more from the current issues of pediatrics or peds in review
• read anything more cerebral than us weekly
• do some yoga
• call someone or catch up on emails
• plan some stuff for our upcoming trip to asheville

there. i am armed now with ideas and will not have to resort to surfing perezhilton.com and watching tv shows online that i don’t even like. not that i did that before . . . um . . . yeah.

in other news, pulmonary clinic was interesting and fun. i mostly saw asthmatics, and they were all doing well, probably because it’s summer and they are not all fighting off the latest respiratory infection. it was a very short day though and i was completely done by 3:45 (hence all the time). not that i’m complaining, but it felt weird and very slightly wrong to be leaving at that time. i really have to get over it though.

7.1.08

run: 5 miles tempo, 0.5% incline: 1 mile warmup @ 9:13/mi, 2 mi @ 8:12/mi + 2 minute recovery, 1 mi @ 8:06/mi + 1 minute recovery, 1 mile cooldown @ 9:13/mi

reading: 35 more minutes on asthma, plus a very good article (that came out of our institution) on neonatal meningitis and why spinal taps are essential for workup from a recent pediatrics

cooking: i made an improvised salad w/ spinach, tomato, bacon, avocado, and blue cheese w/ apple cider vinaigrette which was not that great, mainly because the avocado wasn’t good and we had to throw it out. oh well.

I would also like to sign up for 3 day weeks – how lovely to have lots of time to do things just for “you”!

Question about premature babies – how young have you seen preemies in your travels? I had a friend who had hers at 27 weeks and it was just TINY. Amazing.

rose: hi! this month is awesome, schedule wise. i am loving it.

tanya: the smallest preemie i have taken care of is 350 grams. she was 23 weeks and sadly did not survive. before 23 weeks, there is very little chance of any preemie surviving, so usually that is the cutoff for resuscitation.
