best-laid plans . . .

July 26, 2008

above: my two new best friends

of course, i’m sick. maybe it’s because that’s just how life works: you get TOO happy and satisfied and fancy-free, and all the sudden you are slammed with a reminder that you can’t control the whole world and nothing is ever perfect.

or maybe it’s just because i worked around mucous-y kids all day for the last month. and half of them drooled on me.

to embrace the silver lining, i’m not THAT sick. just a sore throat and some congestion, medicated nicely by some advil and sudafed. no fever, and i actually still have energy and want to go running, to the mall, and do all the other fun stuff i had planned today. so we’ll see.

last night i got mildly drunk (trying to um, sterilize my viremia? guess it didn’t work). i had a really fun time — after the party-on-the-porch, josh and i hung out with my sister and her new boyfriend (hope you don’t mind the shout-out, you lovebirds) and ate turkish food, which involved lots of lamb. our table was just piled with lamb, and now our fridge is filled with it. it was delicious, though.

anyway, while we were out and i was working my wine buzz, i started lamenting about how there are some blogs that get 8 jillion hits daily and how mine just . . . doesn’t. i lack focus and niche, i think. or maybe i’m just not doing the right networking. but oh well: i enjoy writing about all the random pieces of my life, from medicine to workouts to zen to the next cute pair of shoes i’m coveting. sometimes i even enjoy going back and reading about what was going on in my life in, say, february 2005 (answer: not much). so i’m not going to change anything. even if i’m only writing to myself half the time.

workout: oddly, despite my feeling of impending ickiness, i had a great run yesterday. 5.3 miles, with 10 minutes warmup @ 9:13/mi, 3 miles @ 8:00/mi, and 11 minutes cooldown at 9:13/mi, all 0.5% incline. reading material was the always-riveting us weekly. i also did 25 minutes strength training (arms + abs). and no, i was not surprised to find out that vivienne and knox were IVF babies.

cooking: none, because we went to talulla’s on franklin street, and had our aforementioned lamb-fest. but today i am going to attempt to bake a pie. wish me luck!

Just wanted to let you know that I gave you an award over at my blog 😉 I know these are silly, but couldn’t resist.

I read your blog. I know how you feel though; no one reads mine! I think it has to do with leaving a lot of comments. I just don’t have the time to do that on all the blogs that I read even though I do enjoy them.

Did you ever get a running skirt?

I’m still reading, too! 🙂 It makes me excited to hear about how you’re doing in the clinic and hospital 🙂
