wild country

for the first time ever outside of a zoo or other, uh, captive environment, i just saw a snake. it slithered all S-like (at an impressive clip) from the driveway and into the grass as i went to check the mail. it wasn't huge or anything; it was greenish and striped vertically. it didn't bother me much, but it makes me wonder how many more are out there living in our backyard.

  1. Anonymous6:17 PM

I see the little guys on the golf course trail!
Okay, once but I am sure there are more of his buddies in the bushes.

  2. The great thing about snakes is that tiny moment as you near it when you realize it isn't a stick. Your heart sort of seizes and you become hyper-aware. See a snake and know you're alive.

  3. I used to catch little garter snakes in my backyard when I was a kid. One even bit me on my hand. They don't put fear into me like their crotalid cousins!
